Portfolio Entries For Illinois Professional Teaching Standard IV

The competent teacher understands instructional planning and designs instruction based upon knowledge of the discipline, students, the community, and curriculum goals.

Item One: Math and Art Lesson (view entry)

I wrote this journal connecting the area I plan to teach with the area of math. It was fun and interesting to combine the two subject areas to create a meaningful and educational yet enjoyable project for my art students. It was good for me to use my knowledge of both art and math to create a lesson that would benefit the students by fulfilling curriculum goals.

Item Two: SIM (Self-Instructional Module) (view entry)

This is "a completely self-contained instructional package that has been designed for an individual student to master a specific and relatively brief quantity of content on his or her own and at the student's own pace" (Kellough 2008). I designed this SIM to teach a student to draw using one and two point perspective in a forty-five minute timeframe. The student will learn the important terminology that is used in perspective drawing, will learn vital skills in drawing, and will have fun doing so!
