| Writing this Diversity Essay for my Education Fundamentals class helped me to really define for myself what diversity is and what it means to me as a future teacher. Through my experiences, I have come to know and understand that diversity is a beautiful thing that should be appreciated and respected in the classroom. Basing a classroom atmosphere on respect for each other's differences is something I am planning to do in my classroom. Through my education at Trinity, I have come to understand how the differences in children's learning strategies are a blessing that provide me with the opportunity to create new and diverse ways of teaching that are adapted to each student's needs. I "understand how students differ in their approaches to learning" and I am creating "instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners." |

| Learning about Special Education has helped me to understand more about how a teacher can approach the diversity of disabilities in the classroom. Putting together this presentation about PKU has helped me to better understand what it is like to work with a child who has a disability because I had the opportunity to work with a Trinity Alum who knows a child with PKU. Through experience she helped me to really understand what it means to have PKU, for example, she taught me how to make rice crispy bars for a child with PKU, and then she let me do it myself. This along with the things that I had learned through my research really helped me to understand how students differ physically as well as how they "differ in their approaches to learning." It also helped me to understand how I can better create "instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners" like children with disabilities such as PKU. |
